What does this section say?

The English language is hereby declared to be the official language of this state, and all official proceedings, records and publications shall be in such language, and the common school branches shall be taught in said language in public, private, denominational and parochial schools. Source: Neb. Const. art. I, sec. 27 (1920); Adopted 1920, Constitutional Convention, 1919-1920, No. 3. Note: This section may be unconstitutional as applied to nonpublic schools, in light of Meyer v. Neb., 262 U.S. 390, 43 S. Ct. 625, 67 L. Ed. 1042 (1923). But Meyer concerned a statute enacted in 1919, and did not address this constitutional provision, which was enacted in 1920. The constitutionality of this section remains undecided.
